Garden Route Trail

One of the early ‘slackpacking’ trails established in South Africa, on the world renown tourist destination of the Garden Route. It is is a superb coastal walk, varying from lagoon side walking, and kayaking, to beach and forest walking. The sheer range of environmental variation in the Garden Route offers visitors to the region the option of forest, wetland, dune, Fynbos, estuary, riverine, montane and coastal experiences without having to travel vast distances. It is on this foundation of diversity that we have developed our range of guided walks, mountain biking and birding in the Garden Route, including our five day Garden Route Trail.. The combination of natural variation fused with our passion for nature and our scientific field research background, has allowed Mark and Amanda develop this route, into the unsurpassed leaders of informative nature guiding in the Garden Route.

Fauna & Flora

Along the trail there is a big diversity of fynbos species. At the Goukamma river mouth we have one of the few remaining patches of  Coastal Dune Thicket vegetation which is in a pristine condition.

Dolphins can also be spotted trough out the year and whales from June – October.

There is lots of small animals like buck and tortoises and massive verity of birdlife along the Garden Route Trail, the Wilderness lagoon area is particularly interesting.

Climate

The weather in our area is generally quite stable throughout the year therefore hiking is possible year-round. During hot summer days the hikers can take a swim. In our cooler winter months, it is great to sit around a cosy kaggel/fireplace in the evenings.
